new attitude...

Well, I just got back from a wonderful vacation to Florida and I'm quickly heading back out this week to New Attitude. I got this update and I wanted to encourage everyone to go, even if you haven't registered, even if you are broke and can't afford Ramen noodles, even if you have ignored all the people inviting you and telling you how great it's going to be, even if you are bed-ridden and travel will almost kill you, GO TO NEW ATTITUDE. Why? Well look at the speakers and the messages.

The New Attitude singles conference begins on May 27—just over a week away. If you missed the online registration deadline, you can still register for the conference on-site at the Louisville International Convention Center. Jeff Purswell, dean of the Sovereign Grace Pastors College, has just been added to the list of main-session speakers. And now we can announce the topics for each main session:

Joshua Harris: The Truth—Rediscovering Humble Orthodoxy

Mark Dever: The Story—Understanding the Story Line of the Bible

Mike Bullmore: The Life—Applying the Gospel to All of Life

C.J. Mahaney
: The Cross—A Meditation on Jesus' Atoning Death

Jeff Purswell: The Power—Understanding and Experiencing the Holy Spirit

Eric Simmons: The Mission—Reaching the World Next Door

Joshua Harris
: The Family—Taking It Home to Your Local Church Community

Come join us as singles from across the country gather to rediscover truth and recommit to living it humbly. To find out about seminar speakers and topics, get free downloads, or find out what "humble orthodoxy" is all about, visit www.NewAttitude.org

da vinci hoax....

Sunday at CCK, Brent Detwiler gave us a great introduction into the problems of "The Da Vinci Code". The movie comes out in a few weeks, and I found a blog that has tons of good material to help you discern what is true from what is false.

Here is the link to Mark Roberts, who has written extensively and put many materials together to help you. He has a whole section on the reliabililty of the NT gospels, which is a big issue in understanding where Dan Brown goes astray. He uses many gnostic gospels, which were written hundreds of years later and were condemned as false gospels by the early church. In contrast, the NT gospels were written by eyewitnesses and first hand accounts, and were also accepted by the early Christian church because of their authenticity.

Justin Taylor recommends that we go to the movies the night, but that we go see somthing else to communicate to Hollywood that we are not interested in this movie. You can read the whole post on how to respond to the movie here.

Enjoy.

current reading...

I love hearing about the books that people are diving into, so I thought I'd share what I am currently reading. Slowly, but surely, I'm making my way thru these books which I would highly recommend to you:

1. Charles Spurgeon series called, "Majesty in Misery". I am really enjoying these sermons from Spurgeon on the passion of Jesus Christ. My favorite book was, "The Power of the Cross of Christ" by Spurgeon. This new series has most of the same sermons, is hardback, and has additional sermons I haven't read before. I think I have a new #1!

2. "The Message of the New Testament" by Mark Dever. I have read the overview of the NT, the section on Matthew and the section on Mark. This book is wonderful. You can see my previous post for more.

3. "Humility" by CJ Mahaney. There have been many reviews on this book already. If you do not have it, just get it. This book is quickly becoming a classic. The teaching within is timeless and the sooner you read it, the sooner you can begin to apply this vital teaching and put pride to death in your life. Our care group is going thru it right now.

4. "Total Truth" by Nancy Pearsey. Al Mohler highly recommended this book and I now see why. I believe this gospel-centered understanding of worldview is vital for all college students. The truths in this book will help you to see thru so many of the lies that are prevalent on college campuses. She is a great writer and is good at reminding the reader of the big picture and the gospel.
